the comms circle

A trusted space for corporate communication leaders in Indonesia

The Founder

Cheryl Marella is a media professional, storyteller, and communications strategist with more than a decade of experience at the intersection of journalism, leadership narrative, reputation, and public trust.

She began her career in broadcast journalism as a news anchor and reporter, covering national affairs, public policy, and social impact. Working in fast-paced, high-stakes environments shaped her ability to ask difficult questions, navigate complexity, and translate sensitive issues into clear, human narratives.

Cheryl later held senior editorial leadership roles, including Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief, collaborating closely with founders, executives, creatives, and institutions to shape stories during periods of growth, transition, and public scrutiny. These roles deepened her understanding of how narrative, power, and accountability intersect—both internally and in the public eye.

Beyond the newsroom, she has worked on strategic content and communications initiatives with organizations facing complex stakeholder dynamics. Her experience includes collaborating with GOJEK, contributing to storytelling and content work within one of Southeast Asia’s most visible and scrutinized technology companies, where reputation, public trust, and social impact are inseparable from business growth.

She has also worked extensively with Ocean Union, a sustainability-driven fisheries company focused on responsible seafood and community empowerment. Through documentaries, branded storytelling, and field reporting, Cheryl helped translate sustainability, traceability, and social impact into narratives that are credible, accessible, and grounded in real human stories.

Today, Cheryl works as a creative director and communications strategist, partnering with leaders, brands, and organizations to develop narratives around sustainability, leadership, culture, and responsible business—particularly in sectors facing reputational risk.

Why She Founded This Community

Throughout her career, Cheryl observed that communication leaders are increasingly expected to act as risk managers, trust builders, and ethical navigators—often without a safe space for honest, peer-level conversation. Many existing forums are transactional or performative. This community was created to offer something different: a trusted space grounded in lived experience, integrity, and mutual respect, where communication is treated as a leadership and governance function, not just a support role.

"In tough economies, competition gets louder— but community is what helps people endure and adapt.”

The Community & Our “why”

is a peer-led community for professionals working in corporate communication, public relations, marketing, branding, reputation management, and public affairs.

In a time where trust is fragile, narratives move fast, and reputational risk is real, this community exists to create honest conversations, shared learning, and collective clarity.
